that much impact on the labor market. november jobs numbers coming in much stronger than expected. steve leisman who's had a very busy week here to talk about the numbers and put it in context for us. >> hi, sue. no substantive sandy in the jobs numbers. the lack of sandy effect has us scratching our heads, what they said. i just got off the phone with the guy who's the head of doing the numbers, labor numbers at the bls. he walked me through the rather extensibilive process they did fine out if there was any sandy effect, including sampling of businesses in a flood tide areas. >> it was very meticulous. >> i'm pretty convinced they did a good job figuring out if there was an effect and there is no effect which brings us to the numbers which you could believe on face value as much as you can. they'll revise this again. they only come forward with 60% to 70% of the sample. unemployment rate falling 7.7% because largely a drop in the labor force. average hourly earnings up 0.2%. despite positive headlines, xwoeld man sax says we interpret this report as one only slightly better than expect

their gains just a bit. amid reports in washington talks on the fiscal cliff have taken a positive turn. steve weis, market seems to be anticipating a deal. >> all we've done is ratchet up the now if there is no deal or it's an ugly looking deal we've got much more risk in the market. because the market is assuming that a deal will happen. it's assuming we won't go off the cliff. if you take what boehner just said, to me it's actually good news that the market didn't really respond. because it's negotiation as usual. boehner was really only talking about the cost cuts that he's looking for from obama. obama's just trying to negotiate. so i don't even know why he spoke today. maybe to throw some cold water on the notion or maybe throw hope. we don't know. the point is ignore the headlines. let's just -- just invest for longer term. >> josh, what do you make of the 100-point move we're seeing in the dow today? it is the fifth straight session that the dow has been higher. we haven't had a stretch like that since march. >> scott, bank of america merrill lynch is out with a report today. they look

. another thing that is lingering, no longer being able to ride the steve jobs coattails. no longer getting the benefit of the dow. a lot of people questioning where to go from here. the big thing over the last day and a half, the stock is breaking a key support. connell: it is all technical. charles: if dagen has a stock at 570, everyone else and dagen cells, everyone goes to 550. you sort of get this domino affect. it no longer has to do with fundamentals. technicians are saying we are at that point right now. dagen: one thing about the stock, charles. tim cook is no longer in the glow of the steve jobs era. again, that was a major -- charles: he still would have had enough credit among wall street. every apple's earnings report was not great. it was a component issue. they did not have enough supply. they never put the blame on steve jobs. he has that credibility among wall street. the first time at bat, he struck out. you know what people are saying. connell: it has been such a great performer as a stock for so long. how do you personally look at it? charles: i have it in my retirement

. southbound that traffic looks okay driving from concord to walnut creek. let's go to steve. >> sal, december, there are a lot of baseball things going on. >> yes, sir, i saw that. >>> we have a weak system coming in and upstream coming down from the northwest and this might favor coastal areas but we will mention scattered showers and we have pretty good cold air bumped up and we have light rain here, emphasis on light rain and it will push off east and south and we see a little bit of rain, danville, towards fremont and milpitas, not a lot, the cold air will be the big story. 40s and 50s and i expect to see some of these lows drop in the next few hours. the system is looking like this pattern is like a fast moving cold system not much rain but all the way to christmas and one of these systems gets stronger. it looks to be a good system all the way to tuesday. scattered showers, snow levels we can get a little moisture with 3500 feet. only in the 50s and that northwest wind with 50s and highest temperatures will be around the bay and also around the coast. chilly breezy day looks like late s

a redistribution of sales simply because they don't have the inventory at box stores. >> i hear what steve just said. but given the jobs report, we've also seen a drop in gasoline prices. when you get the -- when you remember the prices fell by gasoline. your decline in prices. that's a big increase in consumer spending and probably income last month. so i think consumers can replenish savings just a little bit and still have spending. you also have at the upper end $20 billion and growing of dividends declared this month. to beat the tax hike. that's $20 billion of cash flow that higher income individuals, not all of them but many of them will get. and much of that will end up being spent. >> you acknowledge that university in michigan consumer sentiment, that was big decline. and much of that is attributable to fears about the fiscal cliff. all bets could be off the table if we go off the fiscal cliff. >> sure if you go over the cliff. and you'll still have some tax hikes. we have consumer spending around 2% in real terms in line with income. we don't think the whole tax hikes will go into ef

that. we're asking which has the best stock right now. steve cortez with veracruz, and jim sanderson with detwiler fenton. would you buy that here? >> i think mcdonald's is the better investment of the two. it's had a good run. good day today. i do think investors should be interested. i want to point out a few things. it's very a bad year. there's been a lot of negativity about mcdonald's on the year. but if we pull back and take a longer term view and you look back a decade, you see mcdonald's has been an incredible performer. both outright and in the market. it's done well in go go market and crisis markets. the second point i would make that i think is significant for long-term investors, if you believe in the dogs of the dow approach, those dow components that have done the worst on that year and bet on them to outperform, a reshuffling of the stocks. historically that's been a good strategy i think is for long-term investor prudent. based on that comparison because mcdonald's has so underperformed the dow this year, i believe that in 2013, we will see that rotation of money out

yesterday. he is steve forsyth, a husband and father and owner of a portland marketing firm. this was absolute chaos yesterday. we do know now that the gunman went into the mall through the macy's store and then walked through the macy's armed with this gun, into the food court and began shooting at around 3:30 yesterday afternoon. most of the witnesses put the number of shots at 20 but some of the estimates have been as high as 60. that will all be sorted out by the cops. police say as you mentioned the suspect did not have any connection to the victims. so it looks like this was another horrible random act. the scene was one of panic and chaos. some people captured on cell phones as they fled the mall. as you mentioned roughly 10 to 12,000 people, shoppers, workers inside the mall, the height of the christmas season. this is what is sounded like on police scanners. >> have an active shooter? >> yeah, there is one person saying there's a man with a rifle in the food court and he is still shooting people. >> we're out here on foot and people are bailing out like crazy from e
